Privacy Policy
The short version: we collect as little as possible, we never sell your data, and you can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing hello@knowcareers.co.uk.
1. Who we are
Know Careers is a trading name of Nyota Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17342990), registered office 124–128 City Road, London EC1V 2NX.
For the purposes of UK data protection law, Nyota Ltd is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can contact us at hello@knowcareers.co.uk.
2. What we collect
When you contact us
Your name, email address, organisation and the content of your message.
When you request our report or join our mailing list
Your name, email address, organisation and role, and whether you have consented to receive updates from us.
When we deliver a session
Where we run a workshop or programme, we may collect anonymous or aggregated feedback (for example, confidence ratings and written comments). We do not ask participants for identifying details in feedback, and we do not collect personal data from young people under 18 through this website.
Automatically
Our website is hosted by Netlify. Like most hosting providers, Netlify records basic technical information such as IP address, browser type and pages requested, in order to serve the site securely and reliably.
3. Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To reply to your enquiry — our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.
- To send you the report you requested — performance of your request, and your consent where you have asked for ongoing updates.
- To send occasional updates about our work — your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- To improve our sessions — our legitimate interest in evaluating and improving what we deliver, using anonymised or aggregated feedback.
- To meet our legal and accounting obligations — compliance with a legal obligation.
We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling.
4. Marketing
We will only email you marketing or updates if you have explicitly opted in. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe at any time by emailing us. Requesting the report does not automatically sign you up to anything.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf, which may include our website host, our email provider, and any email marketing platform we use. These providers act on our instructions and are bound by their own data protection obligations. Some may process data outside the UK, in which case appropriate safeguards apply.
We may disclose information where we are legally required to do so.
6. How long we keep it
- Enquiries: up to 24 months after our last contact, unless you ask us to delete sooner.
- Mailing list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.
- Client and financial records: as required by UK accounting and tax law.
- Session feedback: retained in anonymised or aggregated form only.
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you, and receive a copy
- Have inaccurate data corrected
- Ask us to delete your data
- Object to, or ask us to restrict, our use of your data
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent
- Ask for your data in a portable format
To exercise any of these, email hello@knowcareers.co.uk. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
8. Cookies
This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. If we add analytics in future, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent first.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including secure hosting over HTTPS, authenticated email, and limiting access to information to those who need it. No system is completely secure, but we take this seriously.
10. Children
This website is aimed at educators, employers and other adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children through this site. Where we work directly with young people, we do so through their school, college or another organisation, under that organisation's safeguarding and data protection arrangements.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
